Pakistan: PTUDC meeting in Multan Print E-mail

The Multan Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign organized a meeting on Sunday 30 January, in Multan. The topic was “privatization, price hike & Workers rally on 13th March”.

Comrade Jam Sajjad emphasized the importance of collective struggle of the workers, teachers and students against privatization that is being carried out by the government. All the participants agreed to organise a collective struggle against the privatization policy of the government, and oppressive policies towards industrial workers. They also agreed to participate in the rally that will take place on 13th March 2011 in Lahore in front of the Punjab Assembly.

Comrade Zawar explained how, in the name of public private partnership, the current government is attacking the workers, and after which many of the workers have been expelled from the PTCL. Many of the PTCL workers who fought against the expulsions of the workers and for their reinstatement still face charges that were brought against them by the PTCL management. For last 6 months these workers have been unemployed and are suffering from poverty and price hike are adding fuel to this.

Prof Niaz and comrade Asim agreed to continue their struggle against the privatization of schools and colleges in the Punjab. Comrades from the Postal Services have already started their struggle against privatization and emphasized that workers from all the workplaces should get together and fight against it. Otherwise workers will have to suffer mass employment. Workers from the Railways, Sui-gas, and WAPDA also discussed their issues and the importance of the struggle against privatization.

At the end participants chanted slogans in solidarity with the workers of Tunisia and Egypt.
